Fried Potatoes? How about Fried Insides?

We have all been there; it’s two p.m. we have 30 minutes for lunch and we forgot to pack something to eat. That drive thru is calling our names, just a small fry we think, that won’t be so bad, right? Wrong!

French fries used to be my favorite treat, at one point in time I was going through the drive-thru at least three times a week to indulge in McDonald’s French fries. I mean it is just potatoes, oil, and salt right? Nope, I was terribly mistaken the ingredient list is extensive and goes far beyond those three ingredients.

Dr. Christoper Ochner conducted research at the New York Obesity Nutrition Research Center at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center, and he found that just one single portion of the fries contained 500 calories, 25g of fat, 63g of carbohydrates, 350mg of sodium, 6 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein, and believe me it does not end there.

And vegetarians, thinking that they are making a safe choice by choosing the French fries might be surprised to find out that that some fast food restaurants use beef flavoring that contains hydrolyzed wheat and milk.

So, what goes on in this hot potato bath? Canola oil, canola oil is a highly toxic genetically modified oil that people consider to be generally good for human consumption, hydrogenated soybean oil; hydrogenation makes oils more saturated making it bad for your heart. TBHQ or tert-Butyl Hydroquinone is a butane like petroleum based ingredient that is used as a preservative. It is linked to the ailments like cancer, asthma, skin conditions, hormone disruption and even DNA damage. They not only have the hydrogenated version but just plain ole soybean oil as well, soy is linked to many problems including hormonal imbalances and fertility issues, and it is a highly genetically modified crop.

“Natural” Beef Flavor, is not so natural it contains hydrolyzed Wheat and hydrolyzed milk as starting ingredients, or in other words Monosodium Glutamate or MSG.

Dextrose- Sugar (of course, because it can’t be food without sugar!)

TBHQ is an extremely powerful preservative that is found in many products, but animal studies have linked the chemical with peptic ulcer and DNA structural damages.
